Alphabet

What Alphabet does

Alphabet is the parent company of Google. It builds products used by billions of people and sells advertising and cloud services around the world.

The business is grouped into three parts. Google Services, Google Cloud, and Other Bets.

1 - Google Services

This is the biggest part of Alphabet. It includes the products people use every day and the advertising engine that funds most of the company

  • Advertising: Search and YouTube ads are the core revenue drivers.
  • Search: Google Search and related experiences.
  • YouTube: Video platform plus subscriptions like YouTube Premium, YouTube Music, and YouTube TV.
  • Android and Chrome: Operating system and browser that help distribute Google services.
  • Google Maps and Photos: Consumer platforms with massive usage.
  • Gmail and Drive: Communication and storage products used by consumers and many businesses.
  • Google Play: App store and digital content sales, including apps and in app purchases.
  • Devices: Hardware like phones and other consumer devices.
  • Google One: Consumer subscription for storage and extra features.

2 - Google Cloud

This is the enterprise business. Companies pay Alphabet to run workloads in the cloud and use its software tools. What it includes:

  • Cloud infrastructure: Compute, storage, and networking services.
  • AI products: AI infrastructure plus products like Vertex AI and Gemini for enterprise use.
  • Data and analytics: Tools for storing, processing, and analyzing data.
  • Security: Cybersecurity products and services.
  • Google Workspace: Business productivity tools like Gmail, Docs, Drive, Calendar, and Meet.

3 - Other Bets

This is a set of smaller, earlier stage businesses such as transportation and internet services: Projects that sit outside the core Google products and Cloud business.

In short

Alphabet is a mix of a dominant advertising and consumer product ecosystem, a growing cloud and enterprise AI platform, and a basket of smaller long term bets outside the core.
